Space Fight

I built this small 2D Unity game (PC only) as a solo project for a college Game Design course. I was new to Unity, so almost every step was a first: editor workflow, assets, scripting, and playtesting.

The game is called Space Fighters. It is my excuse to lean into everything space themed (Interstellar is still my favorite movie). There are three levels of shoot-em-up style combat, each with its own enemies and pacing.

Spritesheets and simple animation were some of the most satisfying work: turning rough art into ships and backgrounds that actually move on screen. Gameplay-wise I implemented movement, weapons, and basic enemy behavior, mostly through iteration and a lot of trial and error until things felt okay together.

The moment I still remember is level 2, where an invisible enemy ship showed up by accident. Instead of ripping it out, I kept it as a deliberate twist. It was a good reminder that game design sometimes benefits when you treat surprises as design inputs, not only bugs.

Creating Space Fighters was more than a course project; it was a passion project that let me combine a love of space with learning how games get made. The process of bringing this very simple 2D space combat game to life was as enjoyable as it was educational.

Whether you are a fellow space enthusiast or just curious, I hope you have as much fun playing the itch.io build as I had creating it.
